Going Hollywood at Orlando´s Disney-MGM Studios

Take center stage as the star of your own adventure at Disney-MGM Studios. The world of showbiz comes alive, from rock 'n' roll fantasy to Broadway-style stage spectaculars; from the silver screen to the TV screen to behind the scenes.

The Walt Disney Company's original concept of the Disney-MGM Studios was to operate it as a full fledged television and motion picture production facility, not just a theme park. In fact, when Disney-MGM opened in 1989, the studio/production facilities housed two major components, the first of which was Walt Disney Feature Animation Florida, where Disney produced a number of projects, including Mulan, Lilo & Stitch and Brother Bear.

The second, larger, component was Walt Disney Studios Florida, which consisted of three soundstages used for various Disney projects including The Disney Channel's Mickey Mouse Club and Adventures in Wonderland. Several third party productions also used the Studios, including Superboy, Thunder in Paradise, one season of Let's Make a Deal, special broadcasts of Wheel of Fortune and airplane interior sequences for the feature film Passenger 57. There was also a working radio studio for a number of narional radio programs.

However the economics of a studio didn’t work in Florida, so the various production projects have been moved to California or Texas. Still the facilities remain, used by the theme park to good advantage.

Disney/MGM is divided up into six areas. While other Disney properties have a very distinct “world” in each land, the areas at Disney/MGM are much more generic, although each have their own unique spin on Hollywood and the Entertainment Industry.

Hollywood Boulevard

Hollywood Boulevard is lined with shops selling Disney merchandise and food. This is also the location of the "Disney Stars and Motor Cars Parade." It is the opening area that operates on the same principle as Main Street, U.S.A. of Disneyland or The Magic Kingdom—a street lined with shops and food, but in a style more fitting to the Studios.
