The Grill Room in the Windsor Court Hotel
The Finest of New Orleans Dining
The Grill Room in the Windsor Court Hotel
A Special Occasion
The Four Diamond AAA Grill Room, formerly known as The New Orleans Grill, is the restaurant to dine at in New Orleans. There is nothing left to chance at this ultra-luxurious dining spot. The ambiance is up-scale from the hotel lobby through the Polo Club Lounge to the diningroom. The crowd is dressed for the occasion and the waiters are ready to please you in every possible way. We suspected that many of the patrons were hotel guests on expense accounts or affluent locals and were at first a little in awe of the whole scene. But with the upbeat music and the attendant waiters, we were soon at our ease. To our delight we even found that there were a number of bottles of wine for under $50. There were also many more for three or four times that price.
We knew that this was not the place to come on a restricted budget. Locals and visitors including royalty, heads of state, business leaders and celebrities have feasted on the acclaimed cuisine of this much-lauded restaurant. The innovative kitchen staff have consistently provided the kinds of dishes that visitors and locals love, as well as offering special occasion and business dinners. All of this creative fare is executed with impeccable presentation. The present executive chef, Drew Dzejack, has been preparing exquisite cuisine since he graduated from the prestigious Johnson and Wales Culinary Arts College in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In keeping with the Windsor Court’s long time practice, only the finest, freshest, seasonal ingredients and products are used.
Innovative appetizers range from charbroiled oysters with crawfish cream to grilled fois gras and lobster. Also interesting and delicious is the grilled asparagus with Bibb lettuce, a sunny-side up egg, pancetta and lemon emulsion. I was tempted by the latter, but ended up ordering the butter poached shrimp with grilled king crab and blood orange oil. It was a visual and gastronomique delight.
The entrees made us think for awhile with offerings of Colorado lamb, Scottish salmon, grass-fed veal and seared scallops with caviar and lemon cream. There was also a selection of beef, pork and chicken prepared in exotic ways.
Dessert featured some equally amazing culinary creations. There was flourless dark chocolate cake, bananas Foster bread pudding, cheesecake with pear compote, a chocolate truffle and key lime crème.
I would suggest that the day you choose to dine at the Grill Room, you skip having lunch. This dining experience deserves to be savored by those who are truly hungry. We came ready to enjoy the many offerings and it was a truly memorable experience.
