The Cancun Omni Hotel
The Ultimate Luxury Resort Hotel
The View from my Balcony by Mary Jo Plouf
The Omni Cancun Hotel and Villas is the perfect Mexican resort destination. Cancun, from the beaches of the Hotel district to the Riviera Maya, is lined with luxury hotels, but each of them, in some way, falls short of the care and attention afforded guests of the Omni Cancun. I am sure some of you are aware of the outstanding reputation of the Omni hotels throughout the United States. The Omni Cancun goes beyond this tradition of excellence and offers in addition, one of the most beautiful beach locations in Cancun.
Situated between the sparkling Caribbean Sea and the secluded Nichupte Lagoon on Cancun Island, this resort offers spectacular views and 5-star services just steps from shopping, dining and nightlife.
The Omni now boasts the largest, widest beach in Cancun. The dazzling, clean white sand that stretches from the beachside restaurants and pools to the aqua blue sea is a part of the new “beach restoration” plan sponsored by the government to replace the beaches damaged by the past hurricanes. Because of its location on the island, there is no trace of the seaweed that is a problem for so many of the beaches. Children play in the gentle surf and with the first rays of early morning sunlight, walkers can be seen making their way through the soft sand of the palm lined beachfront.
The “all inclusive plan” has become fairly standard in Cancun. Your choices at the Omni are even more innovative. You can of course, do the “all inclusive” for your entire stay, but if you would like to try some of the excellent restaurants located throughout the island, you can opt for a partial “all inclusive” and a few days when you are free to explore the dining opportunities afforded by outside restaurants. You can also make your entire stay with no food or beverages included, but in light of the excellent restaurants in the hotel, I would not recommend this option. Because of the variety of food and beverage plans, it is also possible for you to entertain guests from outside the hotel. For those that choose the “all inclusive package” all non-motorized water sports and equipment are included as is the Sensational Kids Day Care Program.
Your choice of restaurants is such that you will never become bored with the food choices. The very up-scale Da Vinci restaurant is at least on a par with deluxe restaurants throughout the United States and the service is unmatched. The casual beachfront Piña Colada specializes in seafood and Mexican dishes and as one waiter told me when I commented on the freshness of the fish, “ Señora, it was swimming last night.” I believed him.
The main dining room, La Paloma, features a different theme food each evening served at the buffet. If you prefer there is also a comprehensive menu including “the fish that was swimming last night” and a variety of Mexican or American specialties.
An extensive buffet breakfast is available in La Paloma, The Piña Colada or in your room.
Food and drink are actually available any time, day or night, that you might be hungry or thirsty. In fact you do not even have to leave your room because the Omni has a 24-hour room service.
There are bars located at Kukus Jacuzzi bar, where you can relax in the very large Jacuzzi and enjoy a quiet drink while enjoying the exotic atmosphere. The place to be in the early evening is the lively Lobby Bar with its great Martini Menu and contemporary Mexican drink specials. The Pool Grill and Bar serves light lunchtime specialties and features a full swim-up bar. The newest addition is the sushi and sashimi bar, also located poolside. Attentive waiters are everywhere around the pool and beach areas ready to serve you refreshing drinks or light lunches without your having to leave your lounge chair.
There are no discos located in the hotel. This adds to the relaxing atmospheres and assures that there will be no loud music late into the night to disturb guests. There are however, a number of discos, including Coco Bongo and Señor Frogs, located close to the hotel. Three nights a week there are special entertainment presentations set up in the evening near the pool.
There are 334 luxurious guest rooms and suites in the hotel. All rooms feature dazzling tropical views of the ocean, lagoon, pools or garden areas of the resort. All rooms have spacious balconies with built-in lounge benches where guests can read or enjoy the view.
Floors throughout the hotel are marble.
There are also a number of luxury three bedroom villas which are perfect for families or groups of friends. With more than 2,000 square feet, these villas are located in the lush tropical garden/pool area. Each villa features a dining, kitchen and living area on the first floor and 3 bedrooms, each with private bathroom, on the second and third floor.
The guests at the Omni are an interesting mix of young couples, singles, senior citizens and families. For those with children, the hotel provides their “Sensational Kids Program” for their youngest guests. There is also a children’s pool with zero-grade entry, a fountain and shallow spaces to play safely.
For adults there are three cascading swimming pools, a swim-up pool bar, sunken chaise lounges and the unique ocean view Mega Jacuzzi with seating for up to 35 guests. Not only is the entire hotel the ultimate in luxury; it is also fun, restful and relaxing. This just might be the ultimate in resort vacationing.
For those who choose to mix business and pleasure, the Omni offers seven meeting rooms with over 12,500 square feet of flexible event space including the 7,200 square-foot Grand Salon Maya. All rooms are equipped with the latest in technology and air-conditioned for year around comfort. There are also banquet facilities for 550 guests.
The Cancun Omni can also make your wedding dreams come true. With the warm breezes, dazzling flowers and the Caribbean Ocean as a backdrop, nothing could be more romantic than an Omni wedding. There are two chapels, a catholic and protestant chapel or couples may opt for services on the beach or on one of the terraces overlooking the ocean. All of your wedding planning is taken care of from the ceremony, rehearsal dinners and receptions to the perfect honeymoon and a farewell brunch. Complete spa services are also available for the couple and their guests.
One wing of the hotel is dedicated to a shopping arcade and a number of tour desks and car rental options. For any activities you might wish to pursue outside the hotel, you need only speak to one of the Omni tour specialists. They can describe what is available, from adventure tours to water parks to children’s activities. On the rare occasion when the weather does not co-operate and it begins to “ rain on your parade”, you can opt to spend the day in the deluxe Omni Spa, the well equipped fitness center or the Beauty Salon. The Omin can also arrange for your transportation from the airport (just notify them in advance) and your return to the airport at the end of your stay.
I was a guest at the hotel for five days in March and I can assure you that I have never had a more leisurely or relaxing or problem free resort stay. From the moment I entered the door, I was made to feel like a special part of the Omni family. I also suggest that you check with Tripadvisor and read what previous guests have to say about their stay at the Omni. Almost without exception they echo what I have to say. And the most important part of their comments has to do with the excellent service. Great service can make a great vacation even better and nowhere in the world will you get better service than at the Omni.
