A Sunset Gondola Cruise

The Gondola Cruise

The Gondola Cruise by Mary Jo Plouf

The sleek Italian gondolas can be seen at almost any time of day on Lake Las Vegas but it is at sunset that the romance and beauty of the lake and the surrounding hills are at their best. Our gondolier, Sarah, did not serenade us with Italian arias, but she did answer all of our questions about the history of the area and point out a number of homes along the shores which are owned by famous personalities.

We sipped champagne as we glided silently under the bridge and into the lagoon in front of the Loews Las Vegas Resort where there were children playing in the lake and on the beach. The golf course was deserted as the late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the beautifully manicured greens. Occasionally a fish would surface and Sarah explained that there were a great many fish in the lake and guests were allowed to try their luck at a little catch and release.

The most popular cruises are the two or four person dinner cruises. It seems incredible that just 20 minutes from the glitz of the Vegas Strip, it is possible to enjoy the quiet and tranquility of this man-made lake where there are no throngs of gawking tourists. On most evenings, you will have the lake entirely to yourselves.

The gondolas are harbored in MonteLago Village and can be booked from any of the hotels along the lake. The concierge will be happy to make your reservations.

A gondola cruise makes a perfect wedding, anniversary or birthday gift. For more information call Toll free: (877) 446-6365 or visit www.gondola.com.
