Voted sportiest town in 2008 by the French newspaper ‘L’Equipe’, Tignes is developing its image of a sports-loving resort in both winter and in summer.

And to celebrate the start of summer, Tignes is giving away the Sportignes pass for free!
The offer is available from June 21, 2009 and includes one free Sportignes pass per person for all accommodation booked in Tignes for a minimum of one night. Ask your provider for your Sportignes pass.

Head to the watersports centre at the heart of the resort where you can take out a pedalo, kayak, canoe, catamaran or dinghy for a trip out on the lake or visit ‘Acroland’ for a water jump session or fun on the water slides - adrenaline rush guaranteed!

Or why not take part in beach soccer, beach volleyball, a football practice area, trampolines, archery, squash, swimming at ‘Le Lagon’ (Tignes’ aqua centre), tennis, group multi-sports pitches, or a game of mini-golf?

How to get there:
By road: Lyon (2hrs 30mins, 240km); Chambery (2hrs, 130m); Grenoble (2hrs 30, 150km); Geneva (3hrs; 165km)

By rail: Daily TVG to Bourg St Maurice, then regular coach services (30 minutes journey)

By air: Lyon Saint-Exupery, Geneva, Chambery and Grenoble are all less than 2hrs 30 minutes away

In the summertime:
The summer ski area is open every day from June 20 to August 30 from 7.15am-1pm. Sports tourists can get there by heading to the bottom of the Perce-Neige funicular which takes you to the glacier in just seven minutes.

Wild golf in Tignes – July 11-13, 2009:
Since 2000, a new sport has been developing fast - street golf. In this sport that has been directly imported from Germany, immaculate greens are exchanged for the streets.

With an infinite choice of potential courses, the only rule to be followed is safety first. Traditional golfing equipment is used but with safe plastic balls. Over the weekend, golfers who have signed up to the Wild Golf competition will play the unusual holes scouted out by the organisation which are spread out over the whole of Tignes.
Anywhere goes and all shots are allowed - from the glacier, over the lake or even via the Aiguille Percée!

Acroland, come and get some air:
Kitted out with wetsuits but also on skis, snowboards, mountain bikes or roller blades, the jumpers take a run up on the 35m-long slides and are catapulted into the air above Tignes Lake: this is when you can practise your moves and imitate the freestylers and pull a trick before landing in the invigorating waters of the lake. Adrenaline rush guaranteed! See www.tignes.net

Mountain biking, get pumped up:
Over the last five years, Tignes has a become the leader of the pack amongst the bike parks, with 90 kilometres of trails allowing beginners as well as experts to have a ball on the slopes of Tignes… on two wheels!

Learn to ski… on the glacier:
Skiing in the sunshine make your first turns even more enjoyable. Get your skis on! From €111 for five-day group lessons or €36 for a one-hour private lesson. For information and reservations contact Ecole du Ski Français (ESF) on +33(0)479065608 or see www.esftignes.com

Ski… with the professionals:
Passionate pro-riders offering 100% freestyle courses in the snowpark on the glacier. It happens in Tignes and nowhere else! On the programme: freestyle lessons and video analysis in the morning and water jumping on the banks of Tignes Lake in the afternoon. From €248 for a six-day course, four hours per day or €45 for a private ski or snowboarding lesson. For information and reservations contact Snocool on +33(0)479243094 or see www.snocool.com

Send the kids to the Junior’Academy:

On the programme: ski racing, freestyle skiing, “all terrain” skiing, climbing, hiking, high ropes course, mountain biking, and rafting… all in an amazing natural playground – the glacier in the morning and the grassy mountain slopes in the afternoon. Winter season starts early in Tignes:
The ski season starts earlier in Tignes than anywhere else - it all starts on September 26, 2009 until May 9, 2010. On November 28, 2009 the Tignes-Val d’isère espace Killy ski area opens with 300km of ski runs.

New accommodation:
On December 19, 2009 Le Tèlèmark residences will open. MGM will build 57 new four-star apartments on the slopes at 2,100 metres. See the MGM website.
