Adelaide - Last chance saloon

I badly needed to get some money into my pocket....I was having a barrel of laughs in Perth and not saving any money! Sort of defeats the object of trying to see Australia. I've had thoughts about selling myself but didn't think that would much work out...I asked the guys at the hostel and they didn't think it would work out well either. I'd like to think it's because there's a huge Church-going granny population in Adelaide...hence no business (credit crunch after all as well)...not to say that's a bad thing!
I was ready to really rip into Adelaide in terms of it's nothingness, but I'd say I really just can't do it! It's a nice place and the architecture of the buildings really make it a scenic place to be. The churches and main tourist sites look immense....it's a place where you could probably get run over just by stopping and looking from the middle of the road to marvel in all it's glory! You can see Adelaide hills all the way from city centre...they look so cool to look at every day I went to work and even better during sunset!
What changed my mind about Adelaide was the Art Gallery and the museums I had visited...I was highly impressed and learnt a fair amount about appreciating the fine arts, SA's immigration past and aboriginal culture. I was really blown away by a certain painting in the art gallery which is called Evening Shadows. It's in a forest, wear there's a lake and there's leaves everywhere and an aborginal man is walking along and the shadows make for an effect like you're actually there possibly feeling the breeze, hearing the lake trickle and making noises from the fallen leaves like there's not a care in the world.
In terms of culture, Adelaide is right up there. Although, probably because of the big granny dwelling population (maybe I do hate grannies?), the nightlife is pretty crappy. There's some nice chill out pubs/bars but there's nothing rocking anytime of the week. It seems on weekends that the place is a ghost town, you can't hear anything for a mile....you expect some tumbleweed to roll past and that would make more noise! On top of that there doesn't seem to be much for the youngsters to do apart from go the the park or the beach!
Despite the quietness of Adelaide, I've had a good time getting myself immersed more with cricket. It's actually not that bad to watch and I've really enjoyed especially watching the aussies LOSE! I hope they continue to be the big losers that they are! AHHH I LOVE YOU REALLY AUSTRALIA! Also, I've managed to eat skippy for the first time since being in Oz (I know I know...4 months without having had skippy in OZ is BAD!) and thought it tasted really good...much like lamb but probably not as tasty. It's NOT like chicken...I repeat NOT!!! ;p
So overall, not a bad place at all and I think certain events like Australia Day have confirmed what an awesome place Australia is. There was a huge parade on King William Road on this day, which had all nationalities of the world involved which was really kewl to see. The friendliness of this country reminds me of how united Cambodia are. I tried to get tickets to the cricket this day but didn't pull through which is a shame.....I ended up getting bladdered with my mate instead and spoke to all the friendly aussies in the pub to make up for it though.............NATURALLY!!!!! :D
