I thought I'd take time out (and stop being a lazy nobhead) to share this experience with all you special people! In a nutshell, I've loved every moment of Thailand and maybe I can enlighten you as to why I feel this so much. First of all, the people are really amazing everywhere you go and there is NEVER a dull moment. Coming into Bangkok the first day was scary but exciting at the same time. You get the feeling of being scared about not knowing much about the place and arriving as late as I did was all so tiring and confusing.
I think survival instincts kick in a lot when you're a backpacker and you learn to trust these instincts. I've come to realise that when you're on your own things are easy and hard. Easy because you can meet people easily if you're a talker and luckily I've always got things to say and I love to talk to new people and with that the fun comes along! Hard because sometimes you don't want to be on your own and you feel the itch...although if you feel that you like who you are and feel comfortable in your own skin then you can enjoy your own company (lke I do!) you'll be ok.
Now that I've probably lost you I'm going on to talking about the cool stuff! Thai people are incredibly funny and sometimes you're at a bar talking and you'll get the most irritating sales people selling those sound making frogs (which after a while it's hard not to go insane!) when you're trying to make conversation with others and there they are, still playing those things in your ear after like an hour! That's another thing, Thai people are incredibly patient and I haven't come across that many who have lost their temper. It rubs off on you and you just feel chilled out and happy!
I'd have to say that my favourite place has to have been Chiang Mai simply cos I loved the jungle trekking (with a wicked group of people known as TEAM LAZY MOW!) and I'd heard so many people telling me how it's been the place that they've been looking forward to since getting off the plane. Kanchanaburi comes a close second though, as I got to go to the tiger temples, the hellfire museum (which I was naive in not knowing how Thailand was also affected by the war, but maybe you can forgive me!) and the bridge over the River Kwai.
It'd be bad not to mention the really awesome people I met in Ko Pha-Ngan (I learnt how to swim here, Dj'd 2 nights in the infamous reggae bar and did a bit of kayaking!) and Bangkok. But to be honest I've met good people everywhere!!! (I would name all of you but that takes time and effort...I'm quite impatient sometimes!...LOVE YOU ALL...you know who you are!!)
Khao San Road - awesome! PingPong and boob show - extra awesomeness! I'm not going to divulge too much as I wouldn't want to ruin the "experience" when you do eventually come to this awesome road. I keep using the word awesome I know but I'm slightly hungover....only ever so slightly! SLIGHTLY!
My drunkeness in Ko Pha-Ngan reached new levels.....I was around like-minded crazy people (i.e.- drunks!) and ended up with myself passing out twice...how I'm still alive after one particularly crazy night I'll never know and to this day I still don't believe how much I was told the morning after I had to have....I can honestly say I should be down the gutter...but thankfully I'm not and so you'll have to put up with me a bit longer....is that ok?!
Hope you've enjoyed the first of many blogs as now i've found some other pursuit I can channel my good energy into!
....Oh and temples...many amazing temples! :D
