L'Astral
A Revolving Dining Experience
On my first evening in Quebec City, I was fortunate enough to have dinner at the L’Astral revolving restaurant.
This revolving fine-dining restaurant on the 27th floor of the Loews Le Concorde Hotel is accessible by a glass elevator. It offers both lunch and dinner daily and panoramic views of the city. It revolves very slowly past the nearby parks, the St. Lawrence River, the old city and the hotel Frontenac. Virtually the entire city is on view for the pleasure of the diners. This unique restaurant has long been a favorite of the locals who can be seen each evening celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions.
The cuisine features local flavors and ingredients. There is a large selection of organic and vegetarian dishes.
The special menu presented to our group was one of the most unique and delicious that I have had in many years. The meal started with a lobster saffron mousse and candied tomato and cattail heart salad. The soup was a quail broth. The main course was a crusted red venison loin with root beer caramel barley and portneuf brie ragout. This was followed by a cheese plate and a dessert of cake, molasses ice cream and blueberry shooter. It was quite an experience. Unfortunately no one offered to share the recipes.
