Touring Savannah Georgia in Style
Our Classic Cadillac by Mary Jo Plouf
Savannah, Georgia is an absolutely fabulous destination. Whether you are traveling with a family or on a romantic get-away, there is something for everyone to enjoy in Savannah. There is no end to the history in the city. Dozens of picturesque squares, mostly dedicated to old civil war heroes, can be found on almost every block.
To make any trip special, and still not strain the budget, book a tour with Classic Car Tours. You would definitely not be a part of the crowd. In fact, at times it seems like you are not just looking at the city, but the city is looking back at you.
We took a two hour tour in a classic bright red 1962 Cadillac with the top down of course. We could have mapped our own route and covered the drive to Tybee Island or even driven to Charleston or Jekyll Islands. But we let our capable driver show us the sights in Savannah. We started with a visit to the historic Bonaventure Cemetery. We walked through the beautifully kept grounds between the old moss laden oaks while our guide related fascinating tales of those in residence. One story in particular was a little spooky. It seems that a small doll placed on a grave was often moved and hidden within the cemetery, but it always returned to its original place by the next morning. Our guide told us that she had tried this and hidden the doll deep within a bush on the other side of the cemetery and sure enough, it was back on the gravesite by morning.
When we visited the tourist area along the river, I had the definite feeling that we were the center of attraction. I certainly felt like a celebrity.
Classic Tours has a website that is almost, but not quite, as fun to visit as a tour in one of their classic cars. Gather the children around and let them honk the horn, play the radio, wash the windshield and steer these classic examples of automotive sculpture. This animated virtual “tour” is one of the most entertaining websites I have ever visited.
Classic Tours are perfect for weddings, anniversaries and special occasions or maybe just for a “stylish evening on the town.” Savannah is already spectacular; make it even more so by seeing it in style with a Classic Car. You can even drive yourself.
