Golf in the Dominican Republic

Playa Dorado Golf Course

The Dominican Republic has arrived on the international scene as an important new destination for golf. The world is taking notice of the DR’s world-class designer golf courses set amid stunning sea sides, beaches and mountains in an accessible and affordable destination.

Some of the world’s most dramatic and spectacular golf courses, designed by golf legends such as Pete Dye, Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones and Gary Player, are located in the Dominican Republic. Golf has been an important part of the tourism industry since the first course, Teeth of the Dog, opened in Casa de Campo resort.

The Playa Dorado golf course in Puerto Plata was established in 1984 by Robert Trent Jones. The fairways are wide and well maintained. Four of the greens are Oceanside and five more are located on water which makes for difficult approaches. Lessons are available, as is affordable club rental.

The golf course is surrounded by a number of all-inclusive hotels including the Playa Doroda Hotel, the Blue Bay Club, Hotel Victoria, the Barcelo, the Oasis Marien Hotel and the ultra-upscale Casa Colonial.
