Auberge Duchesnay
The Auberge Duchesnay is centered around Lake St. Joseph in the Sainte-Catherine de la Jacques Cartier area known as Station Touristic Duschesnay. It features a wide variety of both summer and winter activities including skiing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, snowmobiling, swimming, canoeing, hiking, rock climbing, fishing and archery. It is both romantic and relaxing and only about a 30 minute drive from Quebec City.
The new Auberge has 48 rooms in the main lodge which is surrounded by smaller cabins. Besides being a comfortable hotel unto itself, with large, comfortable rooms with great views of the lake and surrounding countryside, the Auberge's main claim to fame is its association with the nearby Ice Hotel.
The Ice Hotel is within walking distance and most of the visitors who spend a single night at the Ice Hotel will take all of their meals at the Auberge. The food is excellent and just about anything you might imagine is available on the extensive menu. Many guests also book extra nights at the Auberge while participating in the nearby winter sports. A few 'doubters' even book 'just in case' rooms at the Auberge if they think the Ice Hotel might prove to be too cold for them.
The Auberge Duchesnay is the ideal place to stay for those who want to do a day tour of the Ice Hotel, but prefer the warm, duvet covered double beds overlooking the lake when they retire for the night.
