Stop the press! I have a story for you and it is in time for your Holiday Shopping. Welcome to Glenn’s Holiday Network where you will find an excellent buy for your family or friends.
My offering for today comes from the great State of Kentucky. It has been around since 1919 and has even been promoted as one of America’s best in 1947 when the New York Times food editor, Jane Nickerson, recommended it to her readers. Now it is my turn!
While on a press tour in Kentucky during the later part of September, Cindy Briscoe, the Director of Communications for the Kentucky Tourism Bureau in Frankfort, introduced me to Rebecca Ruth Candies. I am specifically talking about the World Famous Bourbon Balls and the Kentucky Creamed Pull Candy. Now I know you have found other famous candy while traveling around the country, but I promise you will not find a better candy than this.
The Rebecca Ruth Candy Company was founded by two young women with a “definite bent for frivolity, coupled with outstanding courage.” It was the first company to ever produce candy made with 100 proof bourbon whiskey. As time went by Ruth married Douglas Booe and sold her share of the business to Rebecca. She and her husband moved to Cincinnati and while there she decided to start making candy again. It became just as popular in Cincinnati as it did in Frankfort. When Rebecca decided to marry in 1929, Ruth was called upon to purchase the candy company back in Kentucky. It was “Here I go again!” Frankly, it never left the family again and today is still operating with the original recipes and quality intact with the second generation of Booe’s now joined by the third generation.
Today they mail all over the world and have factory tours and great samples for every visitor. “My Old Kentucky Home” certainly lends itself to the delicious candy of Rebecca Ruth. This is a must for your friends or family gatherings. To contact them you can call 1-800-444-3766 or check their website at www.rebeccaruth.com
You know it has to be good if recommended by the Kentucky Tourism Bureau and me, Glenn Arnette. Forget the diet, it is time to celebrate bring out the BOURBON, balls, that is! DELICIOUS!
