WINSTON SALEM AGAIN!
" I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU!"
“I Can’t Stop Loving You !”
For some reason I am remembering the wonderful time I recently had in Winston Salem, North Carolina. It truly is a city loaded with culture, art, museums, delightful quaint restaurants, and much more. “Winston”, as it is called by the locals, is a town for family and kids. Frankly, I found it to be perfect for living and for tourists.
Winston Salem is a city of history, the home of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, the North Carolina School of the Arts, Maya Angelou, the renowned poet, Winkler Bakers and Mrs. Hanes Moravian Cookies, just down the road.
Old Salem, located in Winston Salem, is an authentic restoration of a Moravian community. It is world famous and requires comfy shoes when walking, listening to historical stories, and just taking in a glimpse of yesteryear while visiting all the magnificent buildings. This is a village within the City and well worth your time.
There is something new and exciting being offered through the Visitors Center in Winston Salem. They are the Cultural Corridors CD’s and cassette tapes. Their office is located right in the heart of the City at 200 Brookstown Avenue and these items are FREE for the asking. We tried a couple and loved every minute. You put the CD or tape in your car and you “hear” exactly what to do and how to get there. It really is your personal tour guide right in your own car. They offer five themes that include, The Reynolda Mile, Dare To Dream, Fingerprint Friendly, The Great Wagon Road to Wachovia and The Wine Trails of the Yadkin Valley. Congratulations to the Visitors Center and Stephan Dragisic, Director of Communications, for making history so much fun! All Cities should adopt this idea!
Winston Salem really becomes a very small, quaint community once you know the territory. The people are very friendly and love to help you in any way and tell you about their City. It is a community with a Hollywood and New York flair, where you can find just about everything your heart can imagine. It is a place to enjoy the slower pace of life and have time to “smell the roses.”. By-the-way, they have some of the most beautiful rose gardens in the South. No wonder, North Carolina is so popular with tourists, it is real!
